Privacy Policy — HLG Notify
Last updated: August 4, 2026
HLG Notify is a push notification app that connects to a self-hosted server chosen by whoever installs the app. There is no account, sign-up, or personal data collection required to use the app.
What the app collects
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration token — identifies the device so Google can deliver notifications. It's sent only to the server configured by the person using the app (not to us or to any third party besides Google itself, which already operates the delivery transport).
- Server and channel code entered by whoever uses the app — stored only on the device (local preferences), so the app knows which server to talk to.
- Device model (optional) — sent at registration only as an identification label (e.g. "Pixel 8"), to make it easier to recognize the device in a list.
- History of received messages — stored only locally on the device (local database), never leaves it.
What the app does NOT collect
Name, email, phone number, location, contacts, usage/analytics data, advertising identifiers. There are no ads.
Permissions used
- Internet — to talk to the configured server.
- Notifications — to display received alerts.
- Camera — only to read the channel setup QR code on the initial screen; the camera image is never saved or sent anywhere.
Where the data lives
The server the app talks to is chosen and operated by whoever installs the app (or by whoever provided the QR code/channel code) — we don't have access to it. Notification delivery goes through Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) infrastructure, subject to Google's privacy policy.
